Poster for Second Toy Story TV Special
The fans who are attending this year’s San Diego Comic Con have already been given their first taste of the toys’ next adventure. The last time we saw the toys was in the impressive ABC TV special, Toy Story of Terror. Now, we’ve got a teaser poster which reveals the next TV installment’s name as Toy Story That Time Forgot which will air on ABC in December.
The poster art is by Hellboy’s Mike Mignola who is known for creating comic book art, and who wrote the second Hellboy film, Hellboy: The Golden Army.
Even though the poster doesn’t reveal much about any guest stars or who will play the bad guys, we can confirm that there will be a character called Reptillus Maximus who will be voiced by Kevin McKidd whom many know as Dr. Owen Hunt from Grey’s Anatomy, or to some gamers, Soap, from the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare series. Another newcomer is a toy named Trixie the Triceratops, who is voiced by Kristen Schaal, who is known for playing Hazel Wassername in 30 Rock.
Don’t worry though, all the main cast will still be back to breathe life into our favourite toy heroes. Like, Woody (Tom Hanks), Buzz Lightyear (Tim Allen), Jessie (Joan Cusack), Rex (Wallace Shawn), Mr. Potato Head (Don Rickles) and Mr. Pricklepants (Timothy Dalton).
The story reportedly starts off during a post-Christmas play date, where the gang find themselves in uncharted territory when the coolest set of action figures ever turn out to be dangerously delusional. It’s all up to Trixie, the triceratops, if the gang hopes to return to Bonnie‘s room in Toy Story That Time Forgot.
During the comic con panel, hosted by the TV specials composer Michael Giacchino; the panel said that the story of That Time Forgot was only supposed to be a six minute short film that would be aired in the festive period. However, the creators and producers fell in love with the idea of the new characters and the 1980s vibe that the story had, so they decided the best possible way to tell the story would to be a full 30 minutes.
Also, it seems Trixie the Triceratops, played by Kristen Schaal, will be the main character for this one, as the other toys are in supporting roles. Without giving too much away about the plot, Trixie is supposed to be pulled into a world of toy dinosaurs (like her) only to find that they aren’t as friendly as they first seem.
The new character designs for Woody and gang are supposed to fit the new world really well, and make you believe that this is some kind of 80′s fantasy animated series, which hasn’t just been thrown in without any care.
We will have to tune in around Christmas time to find out how the gang get on, but hopefully we will get a teaser trailer before then for this second Toy Story TV special, which will hopefully continue the long legacy of John Lasseter, the original creator of Toy Story.
Let me know below what you thought of the last Toy Story special, and whether you are excited about this one.
