Because no one should go without having the opportunity to car surf or walk around naked on the street, publisher Deep Silver teamed up with developer Volition today and announced that the new Saint’s Row IV will be releasing later this year on August 20th.
They also released a trailer with a bunch of footage from the game, showcasing some of the insanity you’ll be able to take part in when you jump into the game. Among other things, there are ‘splosions, lots of purple clothes, naked dudes, and car surfing. Check it out below:
Saint’s Row IV was thought to be stagnant at one point, as it was caught in the middle of the unfortunate collapse of previous publisher THQ.
With Red Faction, Company of Heroes, and Metro (among others), Saint’s Row was one of the properties auctioned off to interested parties after THQ declared bankruptcy. While there was speculation that the big companies in Electronic Arts and Activision would step in to buy the open world darling, it was Koch Media, the parent company of Dead Island publisher Deep Silver, that swooped in and bought the franchise as their own with plans to release it.
Saint’s Row has long been touted as a more edgy open-world game in the same vein as Grand Theft Auto. It’s a game that offers players the freedom to do wild and off-the-wall things that not even GTA touches on a regular basis and has adopted a much more goofy and tongue-in-cheek sense of humor. It’s because of this that the game garnered something of a following in the gaming community, using the wild and eccentric to make for a new take on the genre.
It was said last year that Enter the Dominatrix, an expansion for Saint’s Row III, would be made into a standalone releas. This was, of course, during the time when THQ was in deep trouble and in need of money whenever they could get it. Now that the franchise rests on solid ground, it looks like the companies involved in its development are pushing for a proper sequel release. That being said, it looks like this Saint’s Row has some flavors of sci fi action to it that may be Dominatrix-inspired (duh). Of course, we won’t know for sure until August 20th. But until then, check out these reasons of why our author Blake would rather have this game than Grand Theft Auto 5, and tell us your thoughts!
