Assassin’s Creed assassinates its way back to comics

It’s been quite some time since we last saw Assassin’s Creed in comic book form. Dubbed Assassin’s Creed: The Fall, the mini-series lasted three issues, but nonetheless, those three issues were beyond awesome. Now that we’re in 2012 and Assassin’s Creed III is right around the corner, say hello to Assassin’s Creed: The Chain.

Scheduled to ship later this summer, The Chain continues the stories of Daniel Cross and Nikolai Orelov. Since DC’s Wildstorm banner, which published The Fall, isn’t around anymore, Ubisoft will publish The Chain. When asked if there will be a link to Assassin’s Creed III with The Chain, Cameron Stewart, one of the writers/drawers of The Chain, Stewart responded by saying, “I’m not sure what we can reveal, but there is definitely a link, which was planned in close collaboration with the AC3 team, and we expect that fans who play the game will be very interested in going back and reading The Fall and The Chain.”

As for Cross and Orelov, in an interview with IGN, Stewart confirmed that one of the main reasons for a sequel to The Fall was the expansion of Cross and Orelov as characters. According to Stewart, “Ubisoft was keen for us to expand and deepen those characters.” In addition, Stewart teased that readers just might see their sympathies shift between the Assassins and the Templars. You can read the full interview with both Stewart and Karl Kerschl, the other drawer/writer of both The Fall and The Chain, right here. Again, readers can expect Assassin’s Creed: The Chain later this summer.
