Lead Designer Dean Hall announced today that DayZ will become its own standalone game, breaking from its current position as an Arma II: Comined Operations mod.
Hall gave us a look at how the transition from mod to standalone game would take place when he explained that, “Development and updates of the mod will continue in parallel with the development of the game, so anyone who is playing the mod now will be able to continue to do so. The project will follow the Minecraft development model; fast iterations with the community alpha available for a heavily discounted price.”
With over 1 million users, the DayZ mod has become something of a PC gaming phenomenon. It’s a fresh and truly realistic take on the zombie apocalypse where survival is the focus of the gameplay and resources are limited. For more information, refer to the game’s official site DayZgame.com.
