According to a recent posting on Reddit by user Fallout4Boston Bethesda’s highly anticipated Fallout 4 may be set in Boston:
“Apologies for the vagueness of this post. It’s not just my job that worries me, but also getting the fuck sued out of me. Bethesda’s contracts are basically full-proof so if they were to discover who I am, or rather, who I got this information from, a few people including myself could get into a lot of trouble.”
Admittedly it’s not much to go on and may come to mean nothing, however, we do know that the mysterious Commonwealth and Institute are located in that region and just like Fallout 3′s Capital Wasteland and New Vegas before it Boston would be an unexplored region of the Fallout universe.
