In an odd turn of events worthy only of your grandmother’s stories, Sony is suing both Bridgestone and actor Jerry Lambert over trademark infringement.
Lambert, who is best known to gamers for his portrayal as the oddball “VP of everything” Kevin Butler in Sony’s PlayStation commercials, was spotted in a Bridgestone ad playing the Nintendo Wii. Whether or not the suit is a direct result of his playing the Wii is uncertain, but many speculate that it’s the mere use of a Butler-like character that has Sony all up in arms.
An attempt to settle the matter privately failed, leading the courts to order both parties in for a hearing on October 12.
