This has not been a good week for Hammerpoint. While we have been up-to-date with the ongoing craziness that is The WarZ, the day has added another bout of bad news for the online zombie game. Valve has removed The WarZ from Steam.
The following statement was released from Valve:
From time to time a mistake can be made and one was made by prematurely issuing a copy of War Z for sale via Steam. We apologize for this and have temporary removed the sale offering of the title until we have time to work with the developer and have confidence in a new build. Those who purchase the game and wish to continue playing it via Steam may do so. Those who purchased the title via Steam and are unhappy with what they received may seek a refund by creating a ticket at our support site here.
This is obviously a big thing and Hammerpoint’s bossman, Sergey Titov, also had a statement which was sent to Kotaku after they asked for a comment:
We’re making sure that our Store page is 100% correct this is why.
Bottom line – our end goal is to have satisfied and not angry customers, so this is more important for us than everything else.
Althought Mr. Titov’s statement makes it seem that the delisting was mutual, Valve’s comments make it seem that the digital distributor was feeling some heat and made the decision themselves. Steam is even offering refunds through their support site when it seems Hammerpoint wants nothing to hear about them.
As always, I’m sure more details will be coming up.
