Senator Who Told Gamers to ‘Quiet Down’ Says Sorry

Leland Yee (D – Cal.) has apologised to gamers after saying ”gamers have just got to quiet down. Gamers have no credibility in this argument (on gun control).”

Taking to Twitter the Senator commented:

Gamers, I admittedly didnt use best words to SFchron. Meant video game industry has inherent conflict of interest in the gun violence debate

He then followed up with this:

I have a lot of respect for many gamers - many are on my staff and in my family - but the industry has profited at the expense of children.

While it’s unclear what conflict of interest Yee is referring to he has previously spoken out against the ESRB being operated by games industry lobby group the Entertainment Software Association (ESA).

Yee has also previously called the NRA’s interest in violent videogames following the Sandy Hook shooting “mind-boggling.”
