In a zombie crossover for the ages, Valve Software and Capcom have announced that both Resident Evil 6 and Left 4 Dead will be sharing content between the two games on PC.
So, what exactly does that mean, you ask?
Left 4 Dead will get a host of imports from Resident Evil 6, including the chance to face off against enemies (Ustanak, anyone?) and will encounter Lepotitsa, Napad, and Ogroman (all of which were made in the Steam Workshop, makin them an easy integratino into the PC version of Valve’s co-op zombie shooter darling).
Fans of Resident Evil 6 arguably get the better end of the deal, as they’ll have access to the four main characters from Left 4 Dead in an exclusive PC mode titled Mercenaries No Mercy. You’ll also be able to encounter the Witch and Mini Tank Special Infected characters.
Valve’s own Chet Faliszek spoke of the crossover, citing the company’s excitement to work alongside one of their favorite franchises:
“We’re huge Resident Evil fans, so when the opportunity arose to work directly with Capcom to combine L4D2 and RE6, we jumped at it.”
Left 4 Dead is a unique zombie apocalypse survival game that encourages cooperative play with up to three other players. The game features myriad enemies, each with their own unique abilities that challenge the players to use different strategies and techniques when taking on hordes of the undead. Left 4 Dead 2 released in 2009 and still continues to be a popular game today on both PC and consoles.
Resident Evil 6 is the sixth proper installment in the Resident Evil franchise that seeks to be bigger and better than its predecessors by including multiple campaigns and an epic story weaving together various characters from other titles in the franchise. It was met with lukewarm critical reception (although enjoyed by our own Ron Hoffecker) due to a reliance on quick time events and an overall tone not consistent with resident evil games of the past.
Content for Resident Evil 6 will be available on April 5th, with Left 4 Dead’s to follow with a spring 2013 release. Both content packs will be free for PC players.
