Just a few weeks after the release of the incredible Tomb Raider reboot, it appears as though Crystal Dynamics isn’t taking much time off to celebrate.
According to a report from Siliconera, Tomb Raider publisher Square Enix has filed a trademark for something called Lara Croft: Reflections. Other than the name, there doesn’t seem to be much info about what it is. We have heard that there is no single-player DLC planned for Tomb Raider, so this could be any number of things.
One suggestion is a multiplayer DLC pack. We already know Crystal Dynamics plans to support the multiplayer side of their game with DLC, so this could be the first glimpse at that. Although I doubt any DLC will make the multiplayer more of a destination than it is now. It’s certainly not broken, but its flaws go beyond a simple lack of content.
While the single-player DLC idea has been shot down, this could be something as simple as an alternate skin pack. The term Reflections seems to indicate a look back at Lara’s past, so perhaps we could get some classic Lara looks to go spelunking in style. It is interesting to note, however, that the trademark isn’t for Tmb Raider: Reflections, but rather Lara Croft: Reflections.
My guess is we could be looking at a new downloadable game in the vein of Lara Croft & The Guardian of Light. I’m sure Square Enix wants to capitilize on Lara’s success right now, and fans really enjoyed GoL. It’s not hard to imagine the thinking behind releasing another, smaller game to keep excitement for the franchise strong, but who knows? One thing is for sure, I don’t think anybody wants to see Tomb Raider get the Call of Duty treatment.
Of course, this is all speculation at this point. It could be the next evolution in the Tomb Raider franchise, or it could be nothing at all. Stay tuned for more information.
