Destiny is Bungie’s new class based, open world, first person shooter game. Recent updates to the Destiny website have given us a peak at some of the lore behind this mysterious future and its inhabitants.
First off, the site gives us a look at the “Guardians.” The Guardians are the faction that the players are able to control, giving the player the option to choose between a Warlock, a Titan or a Hunter. Presumably each class will have their own strengths and weaknesses.
Warlocks “have long studied the Traveler, mastering some of its arcane energies.” That said, Warlocks will probably be the “magic” class of the game, possibly utilizing special powers.
The first Titans “built the Wall, and gave their lives to defend it.” Here we have our “assault” class, which will most likely taking up the mantle at the forefront of battles. It can only be assumed that Titans will be the first line of defence.
Thirdly, Hunters “once prowled the wilderness and wastelands, taking big risks for even bigger rewards.” No longer an “out-law,” the Hunter now fights for the City. This will most likely be the stealth class, utilizing long distances and sneaking around.
Setting wise, we have information that gameplay will take place on an abandoned Earth, and perhaps even in the “Forbidden Zone” of Moon. In addition, both Venus and Mars are possible locations of interest.
Finally, two enemies are revealed to us. The Fallen have been confirmed to have 3 separate classes in the forms of a Dreg, Vandal and Captain. It’s still unclear if there will be more versions of The Fallen. The only information available about the Cabal is that they are rumoured to be based on Mars. Additional information is still “awaiting reports from the Vanguard.”
Destiny is destined to hit the shelves for PS3, Xbox 360 and possibly PC late 2013. A later version has also been confirmed for the launch of PS4.
