Atlus May Soon Have a New Owner
As many of you know, and for those who don’t, Atlus’s parent company Index Corporation has been in a bad financial situation and is trying to sell off Atlus. This could be good or bad depending on how this all plays out and who buys Atlus.
If Sony, Microsoft or Nintendo were to buy Atlus, then their games would be restricted to the hardware of one of those companies. However, if a third-party such as Sega were to buy the company, then their games would continue to be sold as they are now (multiplatform with the occasional exclusive deal).
Now that we’re all caught up, the latest news out of Japan as reported through Bloomberg is stating that Atlus is becoming very close to finding a new owner and that the list of possible buyers will be narrowed down by next week with a possible final sale by the end of the month.
Bloomberg also stated that insider sources say Sega Sammy Holdings (Sega’s parent company) is on the list of buyers, although that company is a bit strapped for cash themselves.
We’ll continue to follow up on any information that pertains to this sale.
