Texas Showdown Happening This Weekend April 12-14, Featuring Street Fighter, Marvel vs Capcom, and More

Texas Showdown, the Lone Star State’s marquee fighting game tournament, is happening this weekend in Houston, Texas.  After last year’s less than ideal circumstances (some matches were reportedly played in the bathroom), this year’s Texas Showdown appears to be on the right track, as the original founders of the tournament will be running it this time around.  Javier “Javi” Moreno and Chris “Ranma0005″ Chou created Texas Showdown in 2000, and are hoping to bring back to its old glory this weekend.  The tournament will take place at the Crowne Plaza Houston Galleria Area in Houston:

7611 Katy Fwy
Houston, TX 77024

The main games that will be played are:

The King of Fighters XIII
Mortal Kombat
Persona 4 Arena
Street Fighter X Tekken Ver.2013
Super Street Fighter II Turbo
Super Street Fighter IV Arcade Edition Ver.2012
Tekken Tag Tournament 2
Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3

There will also be some games that get side tournaments:

Dead or Alive 5
Guilty Gear XX Accent Core Plus
Skullgirls
SoulCalibur V

Some of the most notable fighting game players will be in attendance, such as Evil Geniuses’ Justin Wong and AGE’s Chris Gonzalez.  Justin Wong has been a bonified star in the fighting game community from the beginning, winning numerous tournaments for a variety of games over the years.  He looks to take first place at a number of games this weekend, some of which include Super Street Fighter IV Arcade Edition Ver.2012 and Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3.

Chris Gonzalez (aka ChrisG) is the undisputed king of UMvC3 right now, almost winning every major tournament so far this season.  He recently took first at Final Round XVI, one of the largest fighting game tournaments in the country.  Look for ChrisG to defend his crown.

ChrisG's amazing Morrigan play has been the main catalyst behind his success.

There are also a host of other great players that are going to attend, such as Xian and PR Balrog.  A bunch of lesser known local players are also looking to shock some of the bigger names, and those upsets will undoubtedly be exciting to watch.

The primary stream will be run by Level Up Live, and the secondary stream will be run by ShinKensou.  The entire schedule for the tournament can be found here.  Remember that the times listed are Texas times, so be sure to convert accordingly.  Have fun stream monstering!
