‘Elite: Dangerous’ Will Get Oculus Rift Support

After seeing the capital ship trailer for ‘Elite: Dangerous’ under a month ago, there’s some new developments for the upcoming Sci-Fi Space-Sim. Frontier Developments, the creator of the ‘Elite’ Series, has announced that it will be supporting the Oculus Rift and implementing it into ‘Elite: Dangerous’.

According to Develop Online, Frontier Developments believes that the Oculus Rift “lends itself perfectly to providing players of ‘Elite: Dangerous’ with a more intense experience.

Apparently there may be two versions of ‘Elite: Dangerous’, one with Oculus Rift support and one without, because Frontier revealed that the Oculus Rift version of ‘Elite: Dangerous’ will available to the backer’s of ‘Elite: Dangerous’ who happen to have an Oculus Rift at no extra cost. So, backers with an Oculus Rift will receive a version of ‘Elite: Dangerous’ that has been tailored for the hardware, whilst others without an Oculus Rift will get the version of ‘Elite: Dangerous’ that isn’t tailored for the hardware. At least that’s my take on it.

“We’ve been playing with the Oculus Rift dev kits and are excited about the potential – just glancing around your cockpit or being totally immersed in a space battle,” said David Braben, CEO of Frontier Developments.

“Many of our backers have made it clear that they would like Oculus Rift support – and so do we! We’re very pleased with the results so far.”

‘Elite: Dangerous’, for those who are unaware, is an ambitious space-simulation title by Frontier Developments, and was successfully Kickstarted earlier this year on January 4, and is planned for a 2014 release.

In other news: No ‘Assassin’s Creed IV’: Black Flag DLC for Wii U“, “Meet the Big Bad Wolf in ‘The Wolf Among Us’ Launch Trailer“, and “Deus Ex: Universe’ Announced, Confirmed for Next Gen“.
