When is the PS5 Coming Out?

Including the PS4 Pro, there were five Playstation models released in 22 years, and history tells us that it’s about time for the new PS5 to be released.

And while there’s no official release date of the PS5, there are enough leaks, rumors, and interviews floating around the internet to make a pretty educated guess on when the new console is going to be available.

But, no matter when it’s finally released, the PS5 is rumored to dominate all other gaming consoles.

So, instead of wondering “when is the PS5 coming out?” we went ahead and scoured all the rumors and leaks so you can read them all right here!

When Is The PS5 Coming Out?

In an interview with Financial Times, Sony CEO Kenichiro Yoshida confirmed that it’s necessary to have next-generation hardware”. So, we know that the PS5 is in the works, but its release date has yet to be announced.

In 2018, Sony Interactive CEO John Kodera stated that the PS4 is in “the final stage of its life cycle“. Shortly after, Kodera confirmed in an interview with the Wall Street Journal that the next Playstation model wouldn’t be released for at least three years, which could be as early as 2021.

One should also notice that Sony didn’t announce any new games at their E3 2018 event. There is the obvious possibility that this is because they’re focused on releasing the PS5. Maybe even sooner rather than later? And, by looking at Sony’s history of previous Playstation release dates, that wouldn’t be too far of a stretch for the release of the PS5.

  • PS1 Release Date- 1994
  • PS2 Release Date- 2000
  • PS3 Release Date- 2006
  • PS4 Release Date- 2013

This chart shows that there were seven years between the release date of the PS3 and the release date of PS4. So, assuming that it would take around the same time to release the PS5, it’s possible that the new console can be released November 2020.

But keep your eyes open this holiday season because some even claim the PS5 could be released as early as Christmas 2019!

What Will The PS5 Feature?

Thanks to a mysteriously filed patent by Sony Japan, we can assume that the PS5 will be backward compatible with all of the Playstation models. This means that the collection of Playstation games you haven’t gotten rid of will be compatible on the new PS5. So, not only will you get to play new games, but you’ll also get to play the retro games you’ve always loved.

It’s also known that the PS5 will have true-to-life visuals thanks to the next-generation hardware, and the console won’t be drastically different from the PS4 Pro.

Needless to say, you might just have to start watching your employees with Time Clock Wizard when the PS5 is released to ensure they aren’t distracted the new and exciting game console.

Last Playstation Model?

So, when is the PS5 coming out? Our guess is November 2020. But there may be other questions about the new console.

Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot believes that each game console has one more generation remaining before they retire to an online streaming service.

This is mainly due to improving accessibility to players and eliminating the needs of a bulky gaming system at home. So, the question must be asked. Will the PS5 be the last Playstation model?
